Steven M. Williams, MD
Steven M. Williams, MD is a graduate of Binghamton University, where he earned a physics degree with highest honors. After completing medical school at the Medical College of Virginia, he was a surgical intern at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY. He completed specialty training in ophthalmology at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Baltimore, MD which included instruction at The Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Ophthalmologic Institute. During his final year he served as Chief Resident and received the Outstanding Resident Award.
Dr. Williams performed his vitreoretinal subspecialty training in Virginia Beach with Maurice B. Landers III, M.D., formerly the director of fellowship training at Duke University. In conjunction with that fellowship he was a visiting macula fellow with J. Donald Gass, M.D., at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute, Nashville, TN. Dr. Williams has coauthored the authoritative texts Macular Surgery and Vitreoretinal Surgical Techniques. Upstate Medical University has named Dr. Williams Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, and he has also served as a trustee at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Dr. Williams created Mohawk Valley Retina to provide the highest quality subspecialty care to his hometown community.
Dr. Williams is a board certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Joseph P. Gale, MD
Joseph P. Gale, MD graduated from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA where he earned a degree in physics. After completing medical school at the Health Science Center in Syracuse, NY he was an intern at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. Dr. Gale completed specialty training in Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical Center in Norfolk, VA where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Gale performed his vitreoretinal subspecialty training at West Virginia University under the directorship of Dr. Lionel Chisholm, a distinguished leader in retinal surgery. This fellowship is recognized as a premier vitreoretinal training program. He practiced for four years as a successful surgeon in a busy vitreoretinal practice in Burlington, VT. After returning to New York State he was named Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, and was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. In 2012 he was named Outstanding Physician of the year by the Genesis Group.
Dr. Gale is a board certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists .
